In the Pink

my coat In the Pink

In the Pink
Inspired by the bright pink fabric with flower print I carefully cut out the pattern pieces. I added a lot of black flowers, leaves and bugs with black fabric paint and stamps, stencils and thermofax screens.

I wet-felted the sleeves and parts of the skirt.
To make a transition between the woven fabric and the felt I used my needle-felting machine to integrate the parts.

There is a lot of applique and free motion quilting.

The Cherrywood Challenge: The Lion King

My piece Twilight for The Lion King Challenge has been juried into the Challenge!
It will be one of the 120 quilts in the traveling collection.

The Lion King Cherrywood Challenge 2016 is getting ready to hit the road to travel for over a year.

The amazing response to the challenge (over 300 entries) was juried down to a fabulous collection of 120 traveling quilts. These quilts were selected from a pool of Finalists.
All 138 Finalists appear in this beautiful keepsake photo book, including the artist's statements

To add a bit of colour I used colour pencils.

Inspired by the fabrics I decided to depict the Lion King in the desert. The sun is going down. The lion is sleepy. The vultures are waiting..... The feeling of suspense in the air.

The Hoffman Challenge 2016

This is my entry The Butterfly Effect.
1st place Clothing.

I used both the black and the white Challenge Fabrics and a lot of butterfly fabrics.

I used black textile paint to make the transition between the two.

On the skirt I added faces, cocoons and more black butterflies.
For those I used stencils and thermo-fax screens and machine embroidery.
There is a lot of empty space as well.

The collar has 3D black butterflies.

The top is made from the black Challenge fabric with a lot of extra butterflies added.

The Butterfly Effect
The concept that small events can have large, widespread consequences.
When we make even a tiny alteration to nature, we shall never know what would have happened if we had not disturbed it.
When small imprecisions matter greatly, the world is radically unpredictable.

Can we still reverse global warming, pollution, environmental disasters?

The Hoffman Challenge quilts will be traveling through the USA for a year.
