2013 La Conner Quilt & Fiber Arts Festival

The 2013 Quilt & Fiber Art Festival, October 4 – 6  featured an International Show of Juried & Judged quilts, fiber art, and wearable art in Maple Hall and the La Conner Civic Garden Club, both locations within a half-block of the Museum.  The work comes from seven countries, including the U.S., Canada, Taiwan, Japan, The Netherlands, Australia, and the United Kingdom.  The city-wide Festival also included a Quilt Walk, Specialty Vendors, and a Silent Auction.

Best of the Festival 2013

October 10 - November 24, 2013

Best of the Festival is an exhibit of the top award-winning quilts that are judged to be the best of our 2013 Quilt & Fiber Arts Festival.

In addition to Best of Show, we will have the top entries in Traditional & Original Interpreted Bed and Wall Quits, Original Design Wall Quilts (Realistic Pictorial, Abstract Pictorial, & Nonrepresentational styles); Original Wearable Art – both Quilted & Non-Quilted; and Fiber Art.

We will also have all the special Award of Excellence pieces on display, including Hand Quilting, Machine Quilting, Applique, Pieced, Recycled/Reused Materials, Embellishment, Fiber Art-Innovative, and Judge’s Choices. Also, the crowd-pleasing People’s Choice Award winner will be on display.

"This exhibit is your opportunity to really study the works by these talented artists."

My winning coat in the 2013 Hoffman Challenge

There are snakes lurking in the grass

This is my coat " There are snakes lurking in the grass.

I won  1st place Clothing  in the Hoffman Challenge 2013, Hurray!!

The Challenge fabric made me think of the tiles of a garden path.

I surrounded the path with a lot of foliage in blues and greens from which the snakes slither onto the path.

I used the Challenge fabric, commercial cotton and silk to create this piece with lots of FMQ.

Vlaardingen Open Ateliers 2013

Op 1 en 2 juni heb ik een expositie gehouden op Hoogstraat 102 in het kader van Vlaardingen Open Ateliers.

Gelijktijdig was er in de Hollandia galerie een overzichtstentoonstelling van alle deelnemende kunstenaars

Beide dagen zijn druk bezocht, ik vond het ontzettend leuk zoveel bezoekers te ontvangen en over mijn werk te vertellen.

Once in a blue moon

Oranje driehoek

Voor de EQA tentoonstelling deed het quiltersgilde een oproep voor oranje driehoeken.
Het thema Movement.
Ik wist al direct, dat ik een foto wilde gebruiken van mijn collega Dans bij ons op school, Irma Barten.
Zij had een prachtige serie foto's gemaakt van dansers in beweging.

aangezien het oranje en een driehoek moest worden, ben ik aan het fotoshoppen gegaan.

Deze foto heb ik afgedrukt op zijde.

De driehoek moest 25x25x25 cm zijn.

Ik heb hem uitgetekend en kwam boven aan een stukje tekort, dat heb ik opgelost door stukjes van het deel dat ik er afgesneden had te gebruiken als applicatie.

De foto heb ik op donkergele katoen en batting gelegd en gedeeltelijk doorgestikt.

Er mocht aan de goede kant geen binding te zien zijn , dat was technisch ook nog even lastig.

De achterkant, met de goede kanten op elkaar erop gestikt en omgedraaid.

Daarna weer doorgestikt en een tunnel erachtergenaaid, die moest 10 cm zijn en aan de onderkant van de driehoek bevestigd worden.

Ik ben bang dat het geheel dus op z'n kop komt te hangen!
