Seasonal change

Now that it is officially Fall here in the Netherlands I'd like to show you my jacket Seasonal Change.
Inspiration: The sun is shining, the air gets cool. The colours are still bright, flowers and fruit in abundance.
Eventually flowers wilt, leaves change colours, from green to yellow, from orange to brown.

Once in a blue moon

Mijn jas "Once in a blue moon"
Hiermee heb ik  de 2e prijs gewonnen in de categorie "best use of Sulky" bij de Hoffman Challenge, 2011

  I won a wonderful assortment of Sulky products.
Ik heb een heel assortiment Sulky producten gewonnen

Inspiratie: het verhaal  "the crane wife", hierin komt een jong meisje aan de deur bij een oud echtpaar, ze wordt hun hulp. Ze spint prachtig garen, dat de man verkoopt.
Als de man een keer gaat kijken, blijkt het een kraanvogel te zijn , die het garen uit haar veren spint.
De kraanvogel ziet dat ze is gezien en vliegt weg.
Misschien, komt zij ooit (once in a blue moon) weer terug.


De verplichte Hoffman stof heb ik in Amerika besteld samen met nog mee stoffen met chrysanten.
Terwijl ik nog andere stoffen zocht met chrysanten kwam ik ook de stof tegen met de blauwe maan en kraanvogels. Daarbij heb ik nog meer stoffen gezocht met kraanvogels.
In totaal heb ik ongeveer 20 verschillende stoffen gebruikt. Zelfs ik weet niet meer waar de ene ophoudt en de andere begint. Leuk detail: bij een verloting op facebook had ik ook een meter van de Hoffman stof gewonnen.

Inspiration: The story of the crane wife

Once in a blue moon we will see her again.

I used about 20 different fabrics of which 2 yards of the Challenge fabric.

Even I can't tell where one stops and another one begins.

Nice detail I won 1 yard of the Challenge fabric in a facebook give-away.

Sacred threads

Sacred Threads is an exhibition of quilts exploring themes of spirituality, joy, inspiration, peace/brotherhood, grief and healing. This biennial exhibition was established to provide a safe venue for quilters  who see their work as a connection to the sacred and/or as an expression of their spiritual journey.

"The objective is to create a dignified exhibition of artwork that touches on both spiritual and personal levels all those who view it. We want to share with others the experiences of quilters whose stories may be a source of healing and strength."

I'm delighted that my quilt Ygdrassil has been accepted into the show!

After a mandala drawing lesson I was so inspired by the story, I decided to make a quilt instead of a drawing.

YGGDRASIL,

The tree of life with 6 of its worlds. 

In Norse mythology Yggdrasil is an immense fir tree that is central and considered very holy. The gods go to Yggdrasil daily to hold their courts. The branches of Yggdrasil extend far into the heavens, and the tree is supported by three roots that extend into wells. Creatures live within Yggdrasil, including the 4 stags, a squirrel named Ratatoskr who must run across the branches of Yggdrassil and communicate between the gods.

On May 15 is the Regionale Kunstdag in Rotterdam, Novotel Brainpark.

There will be 60 artists each showing two pieces of their art, mainly paintings, some sculpture.

With love ..... from Holland

This time I want to show you my coat 'With love....... from Holland'
I have been working at schools for secondary education for 32 years now.
Always at so-called 'black'schools, with pupils from foreign countries, whose parents came to the Netherlands to work here. These people were expected to go back to their own countries, by our government anyway.
Of course that didn't happen, and now they're part of our society.
As a matter of fact they are as Dutch as I am!
In this coat I used portraits, symbols and attributes belonging to the different ethnic groups.

They're  the new Dutch  symbols!
